Purple shampoo or purple conditioner: which do you need? A purple shampoo cleanses and deposits most of the violet. A purple conditioner is the gentler second step, adding a sheer toning layer while it puts back the moisture and smoothness that cleansing takes out.

Gray, silver, and bleached strands are often porous, so a strong toner on its own can leave ends tinted while roots stay yellow. Our Purple Conditioner spreads a lighter touch of Acid Violet 43, a cosmetic colorant, through mid-lengths and ends for a more even, cool finish. Kukui Nut and Red Raspberry Seed Oils bring moisture and slip, Cranberry Seed Oil adds antioxidants, and Hydrolyzed Soy Protein with Panthenol leaves strands soft, manageable, and glossy.

Already using a toning shampoo for gray hair? This is the step that keeps hair from feeling stripped. Pair the two as a purple shampoo and conditioner for gray hair, or follow a regular shampoo for lighter toning on very pale silver. Peppermint, Sweet Fennel, and Orange Peel essential oils give it a fresh, minty citrus scent.

How to Use
  1. After shampooing, gently squeeze excess water from your hair. Wear gloves if you prefer.
  2. Apply to mid-lengths and ends, starting about 2 inches from the roots.
  3. Comb through with a wide-tooth comb so the color spreads evenly.
  4. Leave on 1 to 2 minutes for a light refresh, or up to 5 minutes when brass is stubborn.
  5. Rinse with lukewarm water until the water runs clear.

Purple Shampoo does most of the toning while it cleanses. Purple Conditioner adds a sheer second layer of violet while it softens, smooths, and detangles. For stubborn brass, use both together. For light upkeep on very pale silver or blonde, a regular shampoo followed by Purple Conditioner is often enough.

How long do I leave the Purple Conditioner on?

How often should I use the purple conditioner?

Use it whenever you tone, and adjust how often to how brassy your hair looks. Paired with Purple Shampoo, that's usually once or twice a week, with Gray Hair Conditioner on the washes in between. If hair starts to look lilac, space out your toning days.

Can I use this purple conditioner with Gray Hair Shampoo?

Yes. Gray Hair Shampoo followed by Purple Conditioner is a lighter way to tone, since the violet comes from the conditioner alone. It suits very pale silver or fine hair that picks up purple easily. When brass is stronger, switch to Purple Shampoo for that wash.

Can I use the Purple Conditioner on color-treated or highlighted hair?

Yes. The Purple Conditioner is suitable for natural gray as well as color-treated, highlighted and bleached hair, and helps keep blonde looking cool between salon visits. Will the Purple Conditioner weigh down fine gray hair?

Purple shampoo and conditioner

I have been using the purple shampoo for over a year and love it. I just started using the purple conditioner as well. It does a good job of taking an extra step to remove brassy tones. It doesn’t leave my hair as soft as I would like, however I add my regular conditioner to my hair before rinsing and it feels just right. I do have hard water, so I am sure that contributes to the issue.

I love them all!

I’ve used the gray shampoo and conditioner several times and my hair has improved with each use. I’ve used the vinegar rinse once and my hair felt softer. I really love the leave in conditioner. My gray/white hair is very dry and wirey, the conditioner makes it much easier to manage. I’ve only used the purple shampoo and conditioner once so I haven’t formed and opinion yet.

Superb difference

Since using the purple shampoo and conditioner as well vinegar conditioner rinse my hair made a major transformation. I originally used the purple shampoo then soon started conditioner.. later after tried vinegar product and voila!!! Yellow brownish grey turned to vibrant shiny fluffy grey. I cannot say enough about this conditioner (and the shampoo). I have struggled for years with my gray hair turning yellow. Regular purple shampoos annd conditioners only gave my hair a purple tint. But the yellow was still there. After only one use, I can see a difference. The yellow is much more subdued. It is now a cool ash blonde. The gray color looks brilliant. I used exactly as directed and couldn’t be happier. I will use both the shampoo and conditioner once a week. Excellent products!!
