How to Use

Relaxed Hair Shampoo
Shake well before use. Wet hair thoroughly and apply enough shampoo to coat strands. Massage into scalp and hair, working from roots to ends. Leave on for 2–3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Follow with conditioner.

Relaxed Hair Conditioner
Apply an adequate amount from mid-shaft to ends on freshly washed hair. Work any remaining product through the roots and crown. Leave on for 2–3 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Follow with a leave-in moisturizer as needed.

The duo is made to help keep the look of relaxers, keratin treatments, perms and color, and it is gentle enough for everyday use on coiled, curly, wavy and straight hair. Right after a relaxer or color service, follow your stylist's advice for the first wash, then use the duo as your regular routine.

How often should you wash relaxed hair?

Use the Relaxed Hair Shampoo 2 to 3 times a week, or as needed, to keep your scalp fresh and your hair balanced. If your hair feels dry, wash less often and co-wash in between with our Relaxed Hair Conditioner; if you work out or your scalp gets oily, you may need to wash more often. Always follow with conditioner, rinse with cool water at the end for more shine and finish dry ends with a leave-in.

What shampoo should I use after relaxing my hair?

Right after a relaxer, your stylist uses a neutralizing shampoo to stop the relaxer and bring the hair back to its normal pH; that step should not be skipped. After that, switch to a gentle, moisturizing, sulfate-free shampoo for your regular washes, like the Relaxed Hair Shampoo, followed by a conditioner made for relaxed hair. Our shampoo is not a neutralizing shampoo, so if you relax your hair at home, follow the relaxer kit's directions exactly.

How can I keep relaxed hair moisturized?

Start with a moisturizing, sulfate-free wash like the Relaxed Hair Shampoo and follow every time with our Relaxed Hair Conditioner. Then apply a leave-in conditioner, such as our Leave-In Conditioner, and seal dry ends with a little oil or our Moisturizer Hair Pomade. Sleep on a satin pillowcase or bonnet, limit heat styling and rinse with cool water. If you have hard water, a shower filter can help reduce mineral buildup that leaves hair dry.

Does relaxed hair need protein?

Yes, in balance. Relaxers break some of the bonds that give hair its strength, so relaxed hair often benefits from a little protein along with plenty of moisture, and the Relaxed Hair Conditioner includes Hydrolyzed Jojoba Protein for light, everyday strength. Too much protein can leave hair stiff and prone to snapping, so pair occasional protein treatments with moisturizing conditioners. If your hair feels mushy and stretchy, it may need protein; if it feels hard and dry, it needs moisture.

Can I co-wash with the Relaxed Hair Conditioner?

Yes. You can use the Relaxed Hair Conditioner as a co-wash, washing with conditioner instead of shampoo, about once or twice a week depending on your schedule. Wet your hair well, massage the conditioner into your scalp and through your hair for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Co-washing keeps relaxed hair soft between shampoos, but use our Relaxed Hair Shampoo regularly too, so product and oil do not build up on your scalp.
