    WHAT IS

    PSORIASIS?

Psoriasis is a condition that happens when the immune system signals the body to start producing cells at a faster

rate. Normally new skin cells are produced in 28 to 30 days. With Psoriasis, skin cells are produced every 3-5 days. This often results in the skin cells piling up until they form very uncomfortable, dry, itchy and inflamed patches on the skin called plaques. However, there are different kinds of psoriasis like:

      • Guttate psoriasis. Linked to a streptococcal or other bacterial infection.
      • Inverse psoriasis. This is a type of psoriasis that typically appears in the armpits, groin, under the breasts, and in skin folds around the genitals and buttocks. Inverse psoriasis is so named because it's most common in areas usually spared by the more common plaque-like psoriasis. However, it is possible to have both forms at the same time. The affected patches are usually very red but lack scales.
      • Pustular psoriasis. This form of psoriasis is distinguished by pus-filled bumps on the skin. It can be triggered by certain medications, topical agents, UV light, infections, pregnancy, and stress.
      • Erythrodermic psoriasis. This variation of psoriasis causes a bright red sheen to form on large sections of the body that looks similar to the shell of a cooked lobster. The affected areas are usually very itchy and painful.

      NATURAL TIPS TO TAME PSORIASIS:

1- Wash regularly. Taking daily gentle baths helps remove scales and calm inflamed skin.

2- Avoid your triggers. Try keeping a journal for several months, and note when your psoriasis flares up. Were you stressed at the time? Did it happen after you had a few drinks? Try to make connections to find out what may be triggering the skin eruptions.

3- Take a fish oil supplement. Some studies indicate that daily supplementation with fish oil can help reduce inflammation associated with psoriasis. Try 3 grams a day.

4- Apple Vinegar Wash. If you have scalp psoriasis, try applying organic apple cider vinegar to the scalp several times a week. You may want to dilute it with water (1-to-1 ratio).

5- Relaxation practices like yoga, acupuncture or meditation have been known to relief stress psoriasis.

6- Keep your skin always moisturized. Apply moisturizer right after your bath or shower to lock in natural skin oils. Bonus tip: Keep your creams in the fridge for a cooling effect.

WHAT YOU SHOULDN'T DO IF YOU HAVE PSORIASIS

Using the detergent like dish soap, laundry soap and most cleaning supplies. As these are very damaging to the skin and can cause an infinite number of skin reactions. Replace these with natural detergent alternatives if you can, use gloves and limit contact as much as possible.

Avoid products with irritating ingredients like alcohol, synthetic fragrances, ingredients in sunscreens, sodium lauryl sulphate and sodium laureth sulfate.

      Avoid alcohol and smoking.

Avoid trigger foods. Some of them are dairy, gluten, red meat, condiments and of course junk food.
