  • 10 Daily Habits to Love your Skin Better

    October 22, 2025 4 min read

    1. Not Moisturizing Before You Shower

Most people moisturize after the shower. But applying a body oil before you step in can make a meaningful difference.

Tap water, particularly in many American cities, contains chlorine and other treatment chemicals that strip the skin's natural barrier with every wash.

Applying a lightweight oil like the Just Nutritive Body Nutritive Serum to dry skin before showering creates a protective layer that reduces that stripping effect and locks in moisture before water ever touches your skin.

    2. Skipping the Exfoliation Timing

Exfoliating the same day you shave is too much for most skin, especially if yours runs sensitive.

The better approach is to exfoliate the day before shaving. That gives your skin time to settle before a razor runs over it. Scrubbing and shaving on the same day can leave skin red, raw, and more reactive to products you apply afterward.

    3. Wearing Tight Clothing Right After Shaving

This one catches a lot of women off guard. Freshly shaved skin is more exposed than usual, and friction from tight fabric makes that worse.

The combination of a razor and the rubbing of tight clothing against bare skin can cause rashes and ingrown hairs.

Give your skin a few hours before reaching for anything fitted, especially denim.

    4. Not Cleaning Skin Thoroughly Before Shaving

A gentle cleanse before shaving is not optional. Skin that has lotion, oil, or environmental residue on it before a razor passes over it is more vulnerable than most people realize.

The razor removes that first layer of cells along with whatever is sitting on top of them, including bacteria from products that have been on your skin all day.

Using a gentle body wash like the Just Nutritive Skin Calming Body Wash and lathering with your hands rather than a cloth or loofah keeps sensitive skin calm before shaving.

    5. Holding on to Old Razor Blades Too Long

A dull razor does not glide. It drags. And dragging creates small micro-cuts that are invisible to the eye but very visible to bacteria.

Most women wait far too long between blade changes, often because it feels wasteful to toss one that looks fine. After a few uses a blade loses its edge and begins to accumulate buildup that no amount of rinsing fully removes.

    6. Shallow Breathing Throughout the Day

This one surprises most people. According to traditional Chinese medicine and several integrative health frameworks, the skin and the lungs are closely connected.

Shallow breathing throughout the day limits oxygen circulation, which affects how efficiently your body moves nutrients to the surface of the skin.

Even two to three minutes of slow conscious breathing in the morning or before sleep can support better circulation over time.

    7. Drinking Water the Wrong Way

Staying hydrated matters for skin, but how you drink matters as much as how much you drink.

Chugging a large amount at once is less effective than sipping consistently throughout the day, which keeps your body steadily hydrated at a cellular level.

Keeping water visible, on your desk, on your kitchen counter, near your bed, is one of the simplest ways to drink more without thinking about it.

    8. Avoiding Sunlight Altogether

Sun protection is important, but avoiding sunlight entirely is a different thing.

Moderate, sensible sun exposure supports Vitamin D production, helps regulate skin cell turnover, and can assist in the natural shedding of the surface layer of dead skin cells.

The goal is not to avoid the sun but to be smart about how much time you spend in it and what you put on your skin before you do.

    9. Using Too Many Products at Once

More products do not always mean better results. Introducing too many things at once makes it nearly impossible to know what is working and what is not.

Skin can also develop tolerance to products over time, which is why something that worked well at first may seem less effective after months of daily use.

A smaller routine built around a few clean, effective products tends to outperform a layered one built around novelty.

    10. Not Moving Your Body Regularly

Exercise is one of the most underrated skincare habits there is.

Physical movement increases blood circulation, which is what carries nutrients to skin cells and carries waste away from them. It also supports lymphatic drainage, regulates breathing patterns, and improves how well your body absorbs water and nutrients from food.

None of that comes from a bottle. It comes from consistently moving your body, even just a walk most days.
